"YOU FOUND THEM IN THE FOREST?!"

Sans quickly put a bony finger in front of his smile as he looked down at the kid. They were standing in the kitchen as the child sat in nothing but a cloth diaper. Their eye's wandered around, but mostly they clung to Sans arm as he slowly wiped the warm cloth over their body. Removing the dirt and ice that had clung to them when Sans had first found them. But... he noticed something else...

...dust... it was only a little bit, but it was clinging to the kids hands. What had happened?

"they were lying right outside the door to the ruins... like someone had came out and laid them right on the ground."

Papyrus frown, looking down at the little child as their hazel eye's peered up at the taller skeleton, making him twitch nervously. He had settled on the fact that there was no way that he could capture a human 'child' barely older then 2 years old. His eye's glancing back over at Sans... the thought still wondering if his brother would ever forgive him for even having it as a passing thought. Still... they couldn't hide the child forever. From what he heard from Alphys, human children needed laughter, and play!

Still... how would Undyne take it? She despised humans... would a toddler be any different?

"... THIS WON'T BE EASY TO BREAK TO UNDYNE."

"... what do you plan to tell her?"

Papyrus watched as Sans hand froze from gently wiping the tear stains on the child's cheek. They looked much better and clean as their yellow skin glowed in the kitchen light. Their rosy cheeks grew redder as they looked up at the two brothers in distant interest. Then suddenly bursting into a giggle as the two looked down at them in surprise... only for the two to sigh. They couldn't let this kind of talk be done around the child, it was unhealthy.

"WE CAN TALK ABOUT THIS LATER."

With a nod, Sans moved to slip another shirt they had away in storage over the child's head. It was from the days when he and Papyrus were just children, something that Sans just simply couldn't let go even though it was obvious that they no longer could wear them. Guess it was a good thing he did, because it fit Frisk like a glove.

"let's go find out where you are going to sleep."

___________________________________________

It had been weeks since Frisk arrived in the Skeleton house hold. Making both Sans and Papyrus lives much more hectic then usual. Since they still had no idea how they were going to bring up the news that a human child was living in their house, they looked after little Frisk in shifts. Papyrus had them in the morning, looking like he had been born to play the part of care giver. Promptly showing the child their action figures, as well as trying his best to improve on his cooking. Trying out different things other then Spaghetti to cook.

Sans... was a little bit different in his approach to Frisk. He would have normally have taken care of them in the best way he could. With a joke. But something about how the little kid clung to his sweater and hoodie just made him protective. He set aside his jokes as he merely observed, giving Frisk whatever they needed and showing them different kinds of magic. Papyrus shouted at him, telling him that it was dangerous. But Sans couldn't help it... seeing their wide eyes as at the blue magic as it lifted them up into his arms, or the laughter they emit when blinking around the house. It filled him with that same warm feeling when he first held the kid in his arms not a few weeks ago. Sans was sure that it was the feeling of love.

But... he still had to know.

Why was Frisk just... left there in the forest? Who left them there? What happened, and why was there dust on their fingers.

The snow of the path crunched under Sans feet. He decided to come early in the morning, so Papyrus was still fast asleep with Frisk. The two of them had decided to also sleep in shifts with the kid seeing as they couldn't really buy a bed without arousing suspicion. He slowly approached the door, it's vibrant purple seemed to cut in the darkness of the dark woods. His white pupils glanced around, trying to find evidence, anything to explain to Frisk's sudden appearance.

Only until his eye's caught sight of something... the door that was normally closed was open just a small crack. Just wide enough for someone to peer through. He hadn't noticed, but his bony hands reached out to take hold of it, but froze when he heard movement. His left pupil lit up with a blue flare as he quickly turned around... only to be greet by... nothing. This — was getting stranger and stranger by the minute. He turned himself back to the door, opening it up without another word before his eye's widened at the sight.

Dust... it looked like a monster had just collapsed on the other side of the door. And what to looked to be purple robes with the symbol of their people on the chest. His eyes locked onto the sight as he slowly crouched down, feeling the fabric through his fingers as he turned them... it looked to be a tall monster. Possibly even the same height as Asgore. He turned it over to see many gashes along the back, and along the sides as the fabric was completely torn.

    "...oh no..."

A pair of broken reading glasses lay among the dust. Along with a small leather diary, and a glass bottle.

He picked up the book, wondering if he should take it home with him and read it later... his mind reeling with the possibilities as he glanced back down at the dust. His mind making up that he couldn't wait... he had to know. He blinked back to his sentry post, sitting down as he opened up the leather diary.

"Hello Diary.

I am unsure if this really is how I should be talking to you. But... Asgore insists. If I put my thoughts down onto paper that maybe it will lessen the burden that constantly plagues my mind. He's such a sucker for these kind of things... maybe that's why I love him so. Anyways, our child is coming in less than a month. My heart is racing I can barely breathe! I can't wait to be a 'mom'ster. Heh, just a little mom humor.
"

Sans turned the page. Skipping a little bit of her counting the days until the female monster's birth. His eyes landing on the date.

"He's finally here! Oh a precious baby boy~! Asgore just adores him and I can't help but smile as I watch the two of them interact. We decided to name him Asriel. Gorey isn't the best with names (probably just combined our names together) but I think it suits our son very well... Asriel Dreemurr."

He turned to the next page... only to see that it was years later, and that splotches of tears were casted all over it.

"I... I can't believe... our child... that poor h-human...-" Sans almost froze at the word 'human' his mind reeling as he read on. "Asriel decided- ... - we couldn't stop - ... - and then he transformed!" The tears made a great deal of the writing elligable. His eye's skipped over some sentences before coming to the end. "Asgore tells me that he'll be fine... but I can't help but fret over what has become of him..."

He turned over the page. Seeing this one was free of the tears. It looked like her hand was shaking as she wrote.

"That... Judgmental... Blind... GOAT! Just deciding to kill any human that fell down into the underground! Fine! If that's what he wants, but I'm going to stop it! Before he can get their hands on them, I'll save them!"

Another page turn as Sans froze at the sight. Writing was scrawled across the entire pages, of only three words.

"COULDN'T SAVE THEM!"

He was almost too scared to press on... but he had to know. This didn't tell him what happened to her behind the door. He noticed the entries were getting a lot calmer... cheerier even.

"Oh diary you wouldn't believe what I found today! Well, more like who I found! On my normal rounds I made my way to the hole, seeing if any humans had fallen in. And... well, to my surprise. A child! A little baby had fallen in, wailing as it lay in the bed of flowers. A little child of my own, oh I was so happy diary! My child... I will protect them..."

It continued for a while, it sounded like the female monster took very good care of Frisk. Until he reached the final page. His eyes widened when he saw that it was covered in dust. The beginning was too hard to make out.

"-I... I don't know how they got in. But all I know was they were after the child. I couldn't let that happen. We're making our way to the door... I-I'll be able to fight them there-" dust smudged the next few words until his eye laid on the final words, the shaking having gotten even worse.

"... I am going to fade. My child... I couldn't... protect you... I pray... someone will find you on the other side... and be able to take... care of you... my child... I... I love-"

And there... it ended.

Yup...

I did it guys...

Frozen - Elsa Crying Icon

I apologize. But I just couldn't see Toriel just abandoning Frisk in the middle of nowhere, unless something happened to her. And I couldn't just excuse that she didn't go to the ruins. Seeing as this is playing out the same way as the regular game. So... I had to do it. Toriel had to die if Sans and Papyrus were going to be Frisk's new care takers.

Trust me, this is tearing me up as much as it probably did you. I tried to find other excuses... like maybe Toriel decided she wasn't a fit for being the child's caretaker... or that she wasn't even in the ruins. But, it would make no sense, a toddler would be able to survive the ruins on their own. Not to mention it was the only way for it to make sense. Besides, Toriel just abandoning a baby is not her character. So, this was the only way...

I promise the next chapter will be much more happier, with a lot more Baby!Frisk and Papyrus/Sans sheinnigans.

Edit:
I apologize to those who look down at the comment section and see the 'hidden' and 'spam' comments. There was a argument that broke out and I don't want that kind of negativity in the comment section. I hope this won't stop you guys from commenting...

Please, understand that 'no' I am not happy about taking Toriel out of the picture, I love her... but this to me is the best way to keep the narrative moving forward. Know that if there was another way... I would have taken it. Know that I'm not just saying sorry to each comment for hurting them with this because I'm joking around, I am REALLY sorry.

But we can't turn back now. Things are in motion... and I am not doing this to hurt you guys on purpose. Please... understand.
